Information on the case from local sources, may or may not be correct : Cheryl ran away from the children's home where she lived in Corbett, Oregon about a week after her fourteenth birthday, which was May 21, 1978. She was sighted in San Bernardino County, California afterwards; she was placed in a crisis center or children's home at that time.
Cheryl walked out of the San Bernardino County facility and was reportedly involved in a traffic accident and taken to the hospital. She left the hospital and has never been heard from again. She was reported missing in Rohnert Park, California in 1995. Few details are available in her case.

A missing person is a person who has disappeared and whose status as alive or dead cannot be confirmed as their location and condition are not known.
